Lesliam Quirós-Alcalá is an Assistant Professor at the Maryland Institute of Applied Environmental Health (MIAEH) at the School of Public Health in the University of Maryland, College Park. She received her Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley. She also holds a Master of Science in Safety Engineering and Industrial Hygiene from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá has been involved in exposure science research for over a decade with a focus in children’s environmental health and environmental exposures in highly vulnerable populations. She has worked in industry, government, and academia; and currently serves in the Scientific Advisory Board for the Children’s Environmental Health Network and in the Governor’s Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities for the State of Maryland. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá has published and served as reviewer for Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiology and has presented multiple presentations at ISES meetings. She has been an ISES member since 2007 and has been actively engaged in planning efforts for Student and New Researchers (S/NRs) events at annual ISES conferences since 2008. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá previously served as ISES Student Councilor and Student and New Researchers Committee Chair for two consecutive years. In this capacity, she led efforts to develop workshops for S/NRs at annual conferences and to update the ISES website with information targeted at S/NRs, and in collaboration with other ISES members started a mentor program which has been highly successful and has provided guidance for S/NRs for over six years. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá also served as ISES Academic Councilor during the 2013-2014 period.
