Lesliam Quirós-Alcalá is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Maryland Institute of Applied Environmental Health (MIAEH) at the School of Public Health in the University of Maryland, College Park. She received her PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley. She also holds a Master of Science in Safety Engineering and Industrial Hygiene and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá has been involved in exposure science research for over a decade with a focus in children’s environmental health and environmental exposures in highly vulnerable populations understudied and underrepresented in public health research. She has worked in industry, government, and academia; and currently serves in the Scientific Advisory Board for the Children’s Environmental Health Network and in the Governor’s Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities for the State of Maryland. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá has published and served as Associate Editor for the Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiology and other journals in her field. She has also presented her work at multiple ISES annual meetings. She has been an ISES member since 2007 and has been actively engaged in planning efforts for Student and New Researchers (S/NRs) events at annual ISES conferences since 2008. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá previously served in various ISES leadership roles, including ISES Student Councilor and Student and New Researchers Committee Chair for two consecutive years. In this capacity, she led efforts to develop workshops for S/NRs at annual conferences and to update the ISES website with information targeted at S/NRs. In collaboration with other ISES members she also started a mentoring program, which has been highly successful and provided guidance to S/NRs for over 10 years. Dr. Quirós-Alcalá also served as the ISES Academic Councilor (2013-2014). Most recently, Dr. Quirós-Alcalá was recognized with the Joan M. Daisey Outstanding Young Scientist Award at the 2019 ISES/ISIAQ Conference in Kaunas, Lithuania.
