New members:

As you may be aware, while dues for other Societies have crept up, dues for your ISES membership have not increased in more than a decade. At the same time, ISES has not expanded its membership categories to reflect our interest in being more welcoming and inclusive. Under our current dues structure, the Society is not able to pay its operating expenses without revenue from each annual meeting. This means that the Society operates at a deficit, with potential adverse impacts on the long-term financial health of the Society.

To address these issues, the Membership Committee, in collaboration with the Diversity and Finance Committees, evaluated how our membership categories and dues compare to Societies of comparable size. We found that ISES dues are much lower and that we have fewer membership categories. After many months of evaluation and discussions with the ISES Executive Council and Board, the Membership Committee proposed a revision to the ISES dues structure to the Board. The ISES Board voted in November to approve the proposed changes.

The changes include:

  • A modest increase (13%) in the Regular dues category
  • A new membership category: Developing Country
  • Post-docs and students in the same category

The small increase in dues will allow us to nearly close the operational deficit and is part of an effort to make the Society financially sustainable for the long-term. The new category is designed to attract members from under-represented countries, grow the Society, and expand the reach of exposure science.

Dues Rates – Yearly Membership (Anniversary Year)

Student (Graduate/Undergraduate)/Post-Docs: U.S. $70*
