Rob Scofield

Robert Scofield, Ph.D.

Dr. Scofield is a Principal Toxicologist and Vice President with GSI Environmental Inc.  He has more than 39 years of experience performing human health risk assessments and exposure assessments for chemicals in the environment and consumer products.  Dr. Scofield studied at UCLA, where he received his D.Env. in Environmental Science and Engineering as well as his MPH in Environmental Health Management and his BA in Biology; his post-doctoral training was with the UC Davis Department of Environmental Toxicology.  In the area of product safety, Dr. Scofield has completed several hundred risk assessments for chemicals in a wide variety of consumer products, foods, nutritional supplements, and pharmaceutical products. Most of these evaluations have been performed in support of assessments of compliance with California’s Proposition 65. He has also addressed compliance with other State and Federal product safety regulations, as well as toxic tort claims. Dr. Scofield has managed or performed more than 500 human health risk assessments for chemicals in soil, water, and air. These evaluations included major Superfund sites, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Sites, agricultural chemical sites, Brownfield redevelopment sites, petroleum spill sites, manufactured gas plant sites, and other waste disposal or spill sites. He has also performed and reviewed multi-pathway risk assessments for a variety of stationary, mobile, and indoor sources of air emissions, including diesel exhaust emissions, municipal and hazardous waste incinerators, and industrial process stacks. Dr. Scofield has taught and lectured extensively on risk assessment and has served on peer review committees for the U.S. Department of Defense and State of California. He was an active member of the committee that developed the ASTM Standard, Risk Based Corrective Action (RBCA) for Petroleum Release Sites, and he was a member of the National Research Committee on Natural Attenuation. Dr. Scofield is a longtime member of both the Society for Risk Analysis and the International Society of Exposure Science. Dr. Scofield is also Co-Chair of the ISES 2020 Annual Meeting (September 20-24, 2020 in Oakland, CA).
