Lisa Jo Melnyk, Ph.D.

Dr. Melnyk has been a member of the International Society of Exposure Science (ISES) since 1994. She is a Research Chemist at the US Environmental Protection Agency. She has over 25 years of experience in exposure measurement and assessment, focusing on the dietary route. Her current research includes measuring environmental contaminants in fish potentially consumed by subsistence fishermen, comparison of consumption rates of a community to national averages, determining potential linkages between drinking water microorganisms and Type 1 diabetes, and assist stakeholders in regulation/policy decisions.

Dr. Melnyk has been active in service to the Society, having served:

  • As an ISES mentor
  • As a representative on the Membership Committee, 2008 – present
  • As a member of the General Scientific Meetings Committee, 2015 – present:  chair, 2015-2018
  • As a member of the Finance Committee, 2019 – present
  • As a co-chair of the 2014 ISES Annual Meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio
  • As an associate editor of the Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiology 2003-2007

Dr. Melnyk received a MS and Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Cincinnati and a BS in Natural Science-Chemistry from the College of Mt. St. Joseph.
